A video which influenced me in a variety of ways during our planning process was Lenka's 'The Show'. She similarly uses multiple location settings for affect, moving the protagonist (the singer herself) from a park, to a bus, to a photo shop, to a tennis court, to a city street. This exaggerated 'bounce' from scene to scene creates a synthetic effect in tune with the rhythmic tempo of the soundtrack, thus her edited action amplifies and progresses the movement of the music in the audiences mind. Though our piece is based around quite a series / romantic love affair, we do want to have fun with it & also intend to incorporate this comic relief between transitions.

Our non chronological sequence (though it does not need to make perfect sense, as question & quires is something we need to evoke in our audience in order to create a re-watchable & engaging video) needs to have some string that runs throughout holding the piece together, and as Lenka uses her puppet like metaphor of being physically placed into different settings as if she is "stuck in the middle" and her "life is a maze" and "love is a riddle"; we too intend to create a sense of disconcertion with our constantly shifting locations to represent the same emotions portrayed in Lenka's video.

For most of Lenka's video, the set is not attempted to  look at all authentic and the style throughout is quite obviously 'set up', which of course is intended in her caricatured, extravert, cheesy performance style. This is something which we are currently in the process of debating, without a mass budget realism in every era will be a challenging prospect and perhaps we too may have to play around with this obvious set style of video to create something which is more comically engaging.

The way she is brushing her teeth without holding the brush and cutting up her dinner in the restaurant without holding her cutlery creates the impression that she is not at all in control of her life or how she can live it (displayed in a very mellow / lighthearted way) This is something we aim to recreate by similarly presenting invisible barriers between our protagonist & the extras in each different era & the band + lead vocalist / romantic lead. Her interaction with the people around her is minimal and enthusiastically exaggerates her isolation and torment as she wishes "not to do it alone", this style creates a ghost like presence as if she is a card board cut out who has been transported into each scene without really knowing where they are. This element we have discussed using for our male vocalist to conduct the idea that he is watching over the protagonist and always occupying her mind & heart.
